14. Baby Wild Turkey

We were on a family trip to a small beach called Westmoreland and on our way out of the park when three people spotted a female adult turkey! The rest of the family wanted to see it, too, so we backed up the car to look at it. We expected it to run away as soon as the car was near it, but it didn't! Then I spotted the reason for its lingering. A tiny baby turkey ran out from behind a tree and started waddling after its mother into the long grass. Johnny ran out of the car to catch the tiny baby, and Peter and I were close behind. He caught it and we three took turns holding it. Then, we let it go to follow its mom.
FACT: Although it is sometimes said that, after a baby bird has been touched by humans, the mother will abandon it, this is not true. It was okay for us to hold the baby turkey!
