I have two pet chinchillas. Their names are Pooky and Pushka. I keep their cage in the basement because they are nocturnal, which means that they sleep during the day and wake up in the nighttime. They are about the size of rabbits. Their fur is used a lot in the fur industry because of its incredible softness. In February Pushka was the proud mother of two darling babies, both boys. I named the babies Nelson and Theodore. We enjoyed seeing them grow up, but all too soon it was time to sell them. I sold them to a small pet store near our home in Manassas. Hopefully by August Pushka will be a mother once again.
FACT: Chinchillas have more than 50 hairs growing from each follicle, whereas humans have only one!
